An old song says, “When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires Will come to you.” Indeed, a beautiful song. it exhorts listeners to dream, make a wish, hope and believe that heartfelt wish will come true. “Anything your heart desires will come true.”
Do grown-ups like me still believe in dreams? Many stops dreaming because they think that dreaming is only for kids, or just a childish thing. But we grown-ups should encourage children to not only dream, but also pursue those dreams with passionately and enthusiastically. Our society fosters such attitude.
In Japan, there is a festival called Tanabata, which is celebrated during the first week of July. Before the festival, teachers, officials and parents distribute “tanzaku” (paper strips) on which children write their hopes and dream, and then hang them on bamboo branches, believing that their wishes will reach the heavens and come true.
How nice it is to have dreams, hopes and wishes in life. They are not only for kids. Pope Francis during the pandemic published a book entitled “Let us Dream”. In that time of crisis, he encouraged us not to give up on our dreams even when times are challenging. He said, dreaming is a path to a better future.
Friends, let us heed his call, let us dream again, but this time for our Church, St. Paul, the zealous apostle. As we look forward to the celebration of the 100 years of our Church, let us forge ourselves, and dream for our Church community.
May God bless us all and our heart’s dream.
